Life imitating art

Just a quick post, before a more comprehensive one that I hope to release soon. Readers that followed the Screwtape Replies to Brother John F post will have enjoyed commentator Michael H's parody of the paranoia and conspiracy-theory mindset of the silverogosphere, viz.:
My best source of solid reliable gold information (who only talks to little-known PM bloggers who don't hyperventilate and over-inflate their claims, to better preserve their credibility) told me that the Bundesbank is on to your latest plan of using HAARP to generate and guide hurricane Sandy to NYC, to create a cover for the heist you described.
As told in the New York Times, "HAARP will zap the upper atmosphere with a focused and steerable electromagnetic beam" which can cause "hurricanes, drought, earthquakes, floods, forest fires, lightning, tsunamis, acne, diarrhea, constipation, and hemorrhoids.

Michael H, Screwtape Files, 31 Oct 2012

Although Michael H himself might protest that this was an entirely genuine viewpoint, with the noble aim of educating the masses, I suspect that he was, to use the vernacular, taking the Michael. And a lovely bit of satire it was too.

Satire. Oh, beautiful satire. You know, it's genuinely what I live for. A life without satire is like a day without sunshine. Or the silverogosphere without spittle-flecked keyboards.

As an aside, I love this quote:
Political satire became obsolete when Henry Kissinger was awarded the Nobel [peace] Prize.
Tom Lehrer

Sadly, Screwtape has just had its own Lehrer moment, as I'm troubled to read the following from Jim Willie, released, without Michael H's knowledge (or, presumably, consent), on the same day:

Golden Haarp & Allocated Gold Exposure
HORRENDOUS STORM DAMAGE
The nation is heavily distracted by the Hurricane Sandy, its wind, its water, the resulting floods, the resulting electrical power outage, and ruined businesses, the controversies over flood damage versus wind rain and storm damage for insurance coverage. Look for Sandy to surpass Katrina in its total storm damage, which was $105 billion in 2005. Basic research indicates Sandy and Katrina had much in common, as the mad scientists attempt to play god. The efforts to produce a mild winter a year ago might have had a sling shot effect of generating a potent drought. The path was open for a unique storm, called once in a century, for the NorthEast. My memory is clear of the last hurricane to hit the region, which was Julia. The Jackass taped windows in the Boston area all for naught, since the 50-60 mph winds were nothing but a nuisance and cause for numerous downed trees on power lines. This storm is for the history books, perhaps retaliation by Mother Nature for messing in her kitchen, maybe worse. She always reaps her wrath and delivers her vengeance. The High Frequency Active Auroral Research Program has a shady sinister tone, but it is beyond the scope of the Hat Trick Letter. What Mengele was to medicine, HAARP is to meteorology. What Fort Dietrich is to viral weaponry, it is to weather control and seismic generations. What Monsanto is to modified genetic foods, it is to weather developments. The public seems laughably ignorant of devices to produce earthquakes and to amplify then steer storms, with nuclear power packs. Tesla notes and dreams have indeed come to life. Some personal contacts have close colleagues who actually worked on the project for the Boyz.
Jim Willie, the Golden Jackass, 31 October 2012

Oh. My. Golly. Gosh. Satire is officially dead. Perhaps Screwtape now has no choice but to become a silver pump and dump site. I mean, after this, what else is left? There's not much point in doing the whole silverogosphere satire thing anymore: they're doing it to themselves. So, if you can't beat 'em, join 'em, I say...

Keep stacking... buy a silver ounce and smash JPM!

Got phyzz?

Jim has officially lost it it was only last year he said the dollar was going bye bye over new Years eve. The man can write but clearly he needs meds and a shrink. Actually he probably needs a whole team of shrinks following him around the jungles to stop him talking to imaginary insiders on coconut phones

JW also says JFK lived on...in Greece which is why Jackie O became Jackie O...to be near him. He lost me there rather than HAARP etc...

I like 'life irritating art'.

@ S Roche
I forgot about that. Was that another inside tipster?

Hey,

Inane conspiracy theories aside, I would sincerely like to know, if anyone here at Screwtapes (or anywhere else) has ever debunked / argued against or just looked a the validity of the research of Steve St. Angelo? ( http://www.financialsense.com/contributors/steve-angelo/2011/10/10/peak-silver-revisited )

Since it is so hard to find dissenting voices amidst all the mania on the web, I would really love to hear what people less enthusiastic about silver think about articles such as that one!

@ Striving
I think that would be worth dissection. I can't say when it will be done as there is a lot of other stuff being worked on.

I might give that a go. I'll see what I can do.

At this point in time a prudent allocation of 10-20% pm's in a total portfolio would probably be considered a good thing. How much does it matter which train you take to get there? For the most part reading his observations reminds me of being locked in a cartoon room where you continuously ricochet off the ceiling, walls and floor. Nothing against JW, he's got his audience.

@ Louis / JdA

I would very much appreciate anything you can come up with.

I really don't understand how people can be satisfied with the big pm-"echo chamber" that is severely lacking both in real discussion as well as fact checking, especially in silver.

Glad you liked my inside info.

But I object to your leaving off the hyperlink to the NY Times story. Unlike Jim Willie, I base my assertions from facts sourced from the Newspaper Of Record.

BrotherJohnF has just posted his latest offering called "Power of Markets".
He uses an article by Gary North to explain how markets are always right. Real people buying and selling.
He says that this is why people betting on the results of the election had Obama winning.
He then goes onto talk about the Dow and Apple stating that markets again are always right.

He then goes back to his normal position. Puts a sack over his head with extra blind-folds and refuses to see the Silver market in the same light.

All markets are acting as they should except Silver which is being controlled by the Evil Empire headed up by the Devil. Maybe that's a trifle over the top, but you get my point.

The Silver World is a Myopic World.

@Michael H: You are, as so often, absolutely right. I had neglected to carry the link across from the BJF thread. It is now fixed.

Please do let us know asap if you have any more deep insights into the PM markets.

Do you know the Roquefort Rascal, by any chance..?

@ Striving Consistancy

Looks like I have beaten Louis and Jd'A in responding to your link to Steve St. Angelo's piece on 'Peak Silver Revisited. No matter, as if/when they do respond I am sure that their takes will be rather different to mine.

Based on reading and lecturing for forty years on subjects including technology and development, environment and energy, and food and population, I have no arguments with what Steve presented.

It seems evident that silver production will decline over the coming decades as peak energy and declining EROI kick in. It won't go to zero by 2020, as some ill-informed alarmists have concluded, but it will inevitably decline, along with a lot else.

But, having been a monetary metal for millenia up until around 50 years ago, and having been used extensively for ornaments and utensils before its more recent industrial, chemical, and medical applications, there are huge above ground silver stocks, as I have recently documented in these Files.

So, declining mine production of silver will not have a big effect on the amounts of silver available to the market. Despite what may be said at the time, it is price that will control demand as supply can be hugely increased as holders of silver are enticed to sell.

@ Striving Consistency

Although it was implied in my comment above, I should make it clear that although I am not rabid about silver, I am not unenthusiastic about it either. I have owned it, in meaningful amounts, since 1977.
